The wonderful people at SodaStream sent me a Jet Home Soda Machine to review. They also graciously sent along a carbonator and a whole array of flavors to try. I'm hooked, you guys. No more buying soda for me.
Funnily enough, I was talking to a friend about it and I compared it to the joy I got from playing with an Easy Bake oven as a child. I can
MAKE SODA in my own home...that's awesome!
The
Jet soda maker comes in a range of bi-colored machines specially
created to the colored pallet of any modern kitchen. Among the Jet
features are: automatic access gas release mechanism, fits extra large
carbonators - optional 100 liter aluminum cylinder, minimal space usage,
customized carbonation level and easy to clean drip tray.
SodaStream features
nine different machines that you can buy, as well as over
two hundred
flavors (including caffeine free, diet, regular flavors, teas, lemonades & Kool-Aid) to mix
and make your own delicious drinks! They also carry energy drink
mix & multiple sparkling water flavors! Each bottle of soda mix makes about
12 liters of soda (about 33 cans!) for around 25 cents per 12-ounce can.

You can buy different sizes of carbonators and bottles. Carbonators are
available in two sizes, to make up to 60 or 110 liters of soda or
sparkling water per carbonator & can be recycled. When empty,
SodaStream takes back the cylinder to be cleaned, inspected, refilled
and reused. Carbonators may be exchanged online, or at select SodaStream
authorized retailers.
Bottles are specially designed, high pressure-resistant bottles for use
with your machine. The PET carbonating bottles are BPA-free and may be
reused for up to 2 years. Every SodaStream bottle and carafe comes with
a fizz-preserving cap that helps to keep drinks fresh and fizzy longer
than store-bought bottles.
SodaStream is environmentally friendly.
"SodaStream is an "Active Green" product, meaning that consumers are actively reducing their CO2
footprint every time they make soda or sparkling water at home instead
of buying it from the store. The more the system is used on a daily
basis, the more CO2 footprint the user actively saves. (This differs from "Passive Green"
products, which use green-friendly production processes, but their
products are not inherently helping the consumers save on their daily
footprint.)
Because
SodaStream uses water straight from the tap, the system makes
traditional store-bought beverage bottles obsolete. That means less
plastic manufactured, less plastic waste is created, and fewer bottled
beverages must be transported from manufacturers to distributors to
stores to homes."
The SodaStream Jet is so easy to use.
Here's how it works:
Step 1 - Fill bottle with tap water to fill line.
Step 2 - Screw bottle into machine.
Step 3 - Press carbinator button until you hear a buzz. Buzz three times for best flavor.
Step 4 - Unscrew bottle from machine.
Step 5 - Add capful of desired flavor and screw on lid.
Step 6 - Gently shake to mix flavor.
Step 7 - ENJOY!
