Tarte Cosmetics Haul (Review)

My Dear Friends,

I recently purchased a custom palette box that you can customize with 4 eyeshadow shades & one blush.  It came in the mail today.

The blush is $1.00, called "Verve".  While the downside is that you can only choose one color, the upside is that is seems to be flattering to a range of different skin tones.

Pretty & peachy.

Next, we have the eyeshadows, which are $10 each.  (Please see the link to my earlier Tarte post for codes to get your entire purchase 1/2 off!)  I chose Root Beer Float (dark brown with gold flecks), Pink Panty Pull-down (baby pink with shimmer),Daisy Dukes (light iridescent leaf green), & It Girl (pale matte purple).

I really enjoy the idea of a customizable palette, especially one that is $1.  I think the options are endless with how you can work with it.  This particular palette is magnetized so they will stay in place until you pop each little item out.  Love that.  No opening it & watching helplessly as something falls out and hits the floor.  The colors I chose I really enjoy as well.

The green makes my (hazel) eyes look really pretty.  The brown looks so much better than that color swatch, it's darker with a heavy amount of gold fleck.  The pink is pale enough so it's not a "look at me!" color...it's more sweet & romantic pink. The purple is also in the pastel-ish range, but compliments all the other colors I chose nicely.

All in all, I will buy from them again.  Sign up for their newsletter and get 20% off your order.  Free Shipping!  They have really nice freebies with your order as well.

Check out my other Tarte post here!

You Say It's Your Birthday....

My Dear Friends,

It will be my birthday a week from today.  I'm not entirely sure I am excited about it.  I want to go see "Alice In Wonderland", so I believe I will do that.  I'm going to "attempt" to make myself an Alice-type birthday cake.  I would just buy a cake, but all the stores around here (ie- the grocery store or wal-mart)...i just don't like the taste.  I'll try and post pics of my creation.  (That is, if it actually turns out okay!)

Let's talk about Birthday Deals.

Many stores offer around-your-birthday gifts so that you can get a little extra gift at your own special time of year.  I'll post them here as I find them, so that you may utilize them on your birthday, too!

Sephora has the "Happy Birthday Beautiful" package.  During the 2 weeks before or after your b-day, shop online or go to a store (no purchase necessary in store) and get the "Beautiful Eyes Kit" for your gift!  Mascara (Black), Eyeliner (Silver Green) & Eyeshadow (Aspen Summit).

I absolutely LOVE Benihana.  If you sign up for what they call "The Chef's Table" (it's just an email list), they will send you a $30 gift certificate in the mail for your birthday.

At Smashbox, sign up for their Pretty Points Member Rewards Program and get a free birthday gift consisting of a shadow liner, eyeshadow trio, lip gloss & mascara.

Torrid was sweet enough to send me a birthday card in the mail today with a $10 coupon inside.  No min. purchase...just $10 bucks to spend at Torrid!  You can use the coupon online as well, but you have to call a 1-800-# to get the special online code.  Still nice of them, though.

Miley Cyrus & Max Azria @ Wal-Mart

I saw this darling shirt on another blog and I had to have it.  I see it working with a nice cardigan and dress pants or a cute skirt.

Check me out - I'm only $8!
(Also comes in Black, Purple, & White)

Look at me!  I'm only $6!
(Also comes in Purple & Black)

I also picked up this one, I thought it would be cute as an edgy spring/summer top, paired with skinny jeans and heels & maybe a statement necklace.  I really liked the zipper detail on the shoulders.

With the great Wal-Mart .97 per item shipping, I ended up paying about $17 for the two shirts, tax & shipping included.

I'm not a huge Miley fan.  In fact, I find her to be slightly irritating...but I do like these shirts, so I'll just say they are Max Azria!

A Post To Remind Myself Why.

My Dear Friends,

Lately I have heard a lot of talk about "Indie Bloggers" vs. "Professional Bloggers".  How does one become a "professional" blogger anyway?  I believe that every person is entitled their own voice & opinion.  I don't personally need to be classified as anything other than me.  If you want to put your words out there, I say go for it.  Speak!  This world is here for the creatives, the writers, the readers, the risk takers, & many many more!  Everyone starts somewhere....Blogging is just one of many mediums of artistic expression.

A couple of days ago I posted about how "fashion" is not just face, body, feet.  It is (in my opinion) how you express who you are.  You can have a fashionable couch, or carpet, painting or bathroom rug.  Wear & Decorate in a way that makes you feel good.

I wanted my little blog to stand for those out there who don't always have a ton of money or live in a big city - but still want to look great.  It is possible!  I plan to post the best deals I can find; as well as reviews on good products, promotions on fellow bloggers sites, & highlighting creative people that I believe you should take a look at.

You may not always agree with what I post, but that's okay!  Let me know why you like or don't like something!  Leave me messages - I would love that!

Friday seems so far away!

My Dear Friends,

I don't feel so hot today.  Too bad it's only Wednesday, which means I have two more days before I can theoretically sleep in.  I say theoretically because I have - 2 cats, 1 dog, & 1 boyfriend - that might disturb my plans for the sleeping-in-times.  I just feel so drained, you know?  What do you ladies out there do when you're having a "blah" day to pep yourselves up...cause I need some help!  Well, just in case you're in the mood for some shopping...here's what I found today:

JC Penney has an in-store only (grrrr.) coupon for $10 off a purchase of $25.  I love those kind of coupons. Yes, I will take you up on that offer to take money off of my purchase!  Click here to print your coupon.

Does anyone like Tarte make-up?  If you do, then enjoy 50% off your entire order with code "ecsurvey"!  UPS Ground shipping is only $5, you get a free Double Dose Berry Boost Lip Gloss in "Acai Boost" in your bag, as well as getting to pick a free sample!  I picked the Mini Glistening Powder in "Sugar Daddy".  Here's what I got:

This is the Purple Suede Palette.  It's $1. (.50 for you who use the coupon)  It's empty, until you fill it with a blush (top left pic) and then four eye shadows that you pick (bottom right pic).  The blush is $1 (again, .50 now) and the blushes which are $10 each ($5 now)...so you get the compact, 4 shadows and a blush...plus your free lip gloss and pick-you-own sample for only $21!!  Man is that a good deal!

ETSY Find - Zillows Pillows

My Dear Friends,

I think that "Fashion" doesn't have to sit within the realm of Clothes, Shoes, Accessories & Makeup - I think it branches out into other areas as well.

For instance: home decor, landscaping, crafting....There are many things you can do to make your space fashionable...don't you agree?

I wanted to share this lovely Etsy site, Zillows Pillows.  Mandy makes all the pillows herself, in the most amazing designs!  You can instantly add a pop of color and pattern to your room.  It's so easy to transform drab into fab!
(Yeah, sorry about that rhyme, it made me cringe too, LOL)

I am going to get this one:

It is a perfect little jumble of all of the colors that are currently in my living room!  This one pillow will aid in bringing the whole room together!  Aren't accent pillow great like that?

Here are some other examples of her fabulous work!

*Thanks to the lovely Amber Filkins for alerting me to this talented lady!  Go to Amber's site - she's giving one of these pillows away!

The Hard Candy Review

My Dear Friends,

I'm going to have to periodically update this review throughout the day, since Friday is a very busy day at work. I'll probably have to post a little but and then come back to it later, but it will be finished today:)

I went home last night and played with all the products I got. I had a lot of fun mixing colors and ways to use the items....on with the review!

Blush Crush Baked Blush in "Honeymoon" - First off, the color is very beautiful. It's a light pink/peach shimmer with lavender accents that puts a glow effect on the cheeks. (It is neither brown nor orange tinted.) I would consider it a highlighter more than a true blush, due to the shimmer and lightness of this particular color. I found it looked best when used on the apples of the cheeks. You do get a good amount of product on your brush with one swipe, which means your blush should last a while. The only real "con" that I found is that it doesn't come with a blush brush. I'm going to be honest- I usually throw those tiny things away, but for those who don't, it could be a potential problem.
Final Thought
: Great for highlighting, but I'd use a blush under it and make this the highlighter on top for that extra glow. White round pop open compact with black swirlies is pleasing on the eyes. ($7)

Ginormous Lash Volumizing Mascara in Dime. - Dime is a grey/silver mascara, almost a gun metal color. The applicator brush is plastic with many combs to grab each lash. The brush itself is particularly long so you have many angles at which to go about application. I had to use two coats to get a noticeable color, but it did a good job lengthening my lashes. They have seven total shades to try; Stash, Electric Blue, Carbon Black, Dime, Mudslide, Purple Haze, and Blackout). I'm excited to try the Electric Blue and Purple Haze colors, because I would like to see what it looks like just done on the outer lashes for a little extra "pop".
Final Thought
: I'm not sure how I feel about grey/silver lashes. I think I would like something a little brighter for my eyes, as I've said before, I really like to play up the eyes. If you are in the mood for something subdued, pick this color. The packaging is very nice. In this line, the tube matches the color of the product inside! ($6)

Fortune Telling Lip Gloss in Destiny. - The "Fortune Telling" line of glosses is done in cute 8-Ball packaging with corresponding names. The one I have is a peachy/pink clear type gloss, and it coordinates really well with the above mentioned "Honeymoon" blush. It has a very appealing smell, like fresh peaches. The applicator is a sponge tipped brush which applies evenly and without being gummy. Once it dries, it has a glass-like sheen on your lips and a pleasing peach note if you happen to lick your lips. It is a fairly good sized gloss tube, so you definitely get your money's worth.
Final Thought: I honestly love it. I like that it is almost a lip-colored gloss, with a good amount of shine. The peach scent makes it more appealing to me. Stays on for a good while and is not sticky. The tube is really cute, with a white lid, 8-Ball designs & swirlies. ($6)

In The Shadows Eyeshadow Collection in Splendid/Foiled Again. - I have the collection known at Hard Candy's website as "Splendid" and at Wal-Mart as "Foiled Again"...not sure why there are two different names, but whatever! The 5 color collection that I have has Black, Grey, Purple, Dark Blue, & White eye shadows and came with a free primer tube. This collection is perfect if you want a dramatic eye. It is pigmented well, and you don't have to use a lot to get the desired color.
Final Thought: This set brings the drama. You can get a smoky, seductive eye that is sure to make you look hot! The colors work really well together and the packaging is really effective. The packaging is book style, with magnetic closures so it stays shut until it needs to be opened. ($7)

Just Nails Nail Color in Frenzy. - To say that I quickly became obsessed with this color is an understatement. Pantone declared that the official color of 2010 is turquoise, so this will work perfectly for you if you are in the mood for bright, pretty color! I used one coat on my fingers & toes and that is all I needed. It is a creamy turquoise color that when dry is already very glossy. (It looks like you've put a top coat on.) It is a very unique color, with smooth application and beautiful pigmentation!
Final Thought: Hands down, I love this color. It's very vibrant, very spring. Goes on evenly and with just one coat! The packaging is adorable. Each bottle comes with the signature plastic ring that matches the shade. Too cute. ($5)

End Note: I will be buying more of this fantastic brand! I think that they have a lot to offer and cater to all types of women out there! Head over to your Wal-Mart to check it out!

Tomorrow - Huge Hard Candy Review

My Dear Friends,

I got a haul today of products to review from Hard Candy. I'm going to take all these goodies home tonight and play around with them and tomorrow I will bring you a thorough & honest review of my findings.

Hard Candy recently relaunched their brand, and I am sure it will appeal to a huge audience. They are known for their innovative, edgy and groundbreaking products. Never one to only put out "safe" colors, their color spectrum is vast and varied.

Tomorrow's Review will consist of:

Blush Crush Baked Blush in Honeymoon.
Ginormous Lash Volumizing Mascara in Dime.
Fortune Telling Lipgloss in Destiny.
In The Shadows Eyeshadow Collection in Splendid/Foiled Again.
(*note: comes w/ complimentary Eyeshadow Primer Tube)
Just Nails Nail Color in Frenzy.

I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that I can just go into a Wal-Mart (in store and online) and buy this brand. I can already tell I'm going to be in trouble with this one. I might as well sign over my paycheck to Wal-Mart/Hard Candy right now & get it over with! LOL

MAC Mini-Review

My Dear Friends,

I got my MAC order in today. It took a while due to the fact that pretty much the northern half of the US is covered in rain/snow/slush/yuck....but that's okay. No one can stop Mother Nature. Anyway, I only ordered one thing, hence the mini haul.

MAC Lustre Lipstick in "Jubilee". The lovely Shifa over at Get Gawjus recommended it on this post and I loved how it turned out on her so much that I had to buy it for myself.

I totally love it. I really go for a nude-type lipstick. I like to do dramatic eyes and light lips and this is perfect. It is a beautiful, glossy, sheer nude. Very long-lasting.

MAC Lustre Jubilee - $14!

If you want more bang for your buck like I do, use one of these offers to get you a little more in your cart for free! Codes "amber", "plum" or "zoom" nets you Free Shipping. Code "lash119ca" gets you a sample of the MAC Zoom Lash mascara in "Zoomblack".
(Actual size of freebie tube is about 1/2 inch taller than the lipstick).

I used the latter code, so I got a free tube. The mascara itself is a thick gel. It does take some time to dry, but that is perfect for me, just in case I want to add a little more, or define a certain area. There is a slight, but not at all unpleasant smell, which doesn't bother me at all. I mean...it IS mascara. It doesn't run or crumble, & it defines the lashes well.

A full sized tube is only $13.

Alternative Valentines Day Gifts

My Dear Friends,

As much as I love chocolate & flowers, I do not want them on Valentine's Day. To me, they are the easy, go-to, "I didn't put too much thought into this" gift. Any dude can waltz into Wal-Mart & pick up a used-to-be-$5-but-is-now-$15-because-of-v-day bouquet and some Russell Stovers/Whitmans (usually whichever is closer)....

If I have to think about what to get you, (since flowers & candy are not typically guy presents) you should think about what you have to get me. It's just fair. Every woman has those things that they would like someone to give them; the things that we want but wouldn't usually buy for ourselves.

This is my list of very affordable alternatives:

Edible Arrangements - Oranges, pineapples, pears, bananas, honeydew, grapes, cantaloupe, apples and/or strawberries creatively designed to look like a bouquet of flowers. They can even be dipped in dark, milk, white chocolate or peanut butter. Garnishes include shaved almonds, cinnamon, coconut flakes, mixed nuts, With boxes/arrangements starting at $25, that is a lot cheaper than flowers! This bouquet is $36!

Romanico's Chocolate - I know, I know...I just said I didn't want chocolate. But I never said I didn't want chocolate sushi. Miami Sushi is chocolate & fruit made to look exactly like real sushi, but you know, without all that fishy business. How Fun! For those of you who want to spend a little less, but still have a great gift, try the Piccalo Box. It's 9 pieces of hand crafted artisan chocolate for $16. Use code "march" for free 3 day air shipping!
This box is $36!

.....more to come later!

My Dear Friends,

Today is Tuesday, so that means Let's Do Lunch w/ Smashbox promo day! Today's Free Gift is a full sized Blush/Soft Lights Duo in "Casting/Filmmaker". It is a blush/highlighter duo. The blush is a very pretty petal pink and the highlighter a soft bisque. It is a $30 value.

For those of you who are going to purchase something today, don't forget it's between 9am-2pm PST and the freebie won't appear in your cart until after you've checked out. Don't forget to add your 3 free jumbo samples to your cart! As always, you get free shipping!

NARS Mini-Review

My Dear Friends,

I was browsing the Sephora site last week, and I found this great combo set. (Warning: do not read any further if you are offended by "adult" type words LOL) It's called the NARS Temptation Gift Set. A $42 value, on sale for $30. It's a full size nail polish and blush in ORGASM. (*gasp*) Yes, that is really the color name.
Sephora/NARS offers other items in this color line, including: illuminator, multiple stick & lip gloss.

Their website says:

"This gift set pairs a blush and polish—both offered in the beloved, best-selling shade of Orgasm. Orgasm contains gorgeous golden flecks of peach and pink, that will add a touch of shimmer and glimmer to your cheeks and nails."

Here's what I think:

Nail Polish - In the bottle, the shade is absolutely amazing. A rich peachy-pink, perfect for spring/summer (might even work in the fall because of the orange-y hue). As far as your nails go, one coat puts a very sheer coat on. It has a nice golden shimmer. Two coats is what i'm rocking now, and I like that much better. If you like subtle colors, this is great for you. Even without a top coat, it's stayed on very well and hasn't chipped yet (2 days so far).

(note: I am a fan of both subtle and bold, so I'd keep this around when I was feeling on the lighter side.)

Blush - This is a great blush, as it compliments both lighter & darker skin tones. It really seems to compliment my skin, making a sort of "glow" without looking like I'm twelve years old covered in too much glitter. It is a very fine powder, goes on evenly and without fading.

Result - I highly recommend this set. You do save $12 by buying them together, too, and saving money never hurts!

Smashbox Mini-Review

My Dear Friends,

I found a bit of a bright spot on my dismal, rainy day. I got my Smashbox order in! I only ordered one thing, the
Photo Op Under Eye Brightener & Illuminator (long title, eh?).

This is what the website says:

"Before concealer, apply PHOTO OP UNDER EYE BRIGHTENER under eyes and blend out using fingers. For a lifted and youthful appearance, highlight the inner corners of the eye and orbital bone. You can even fake a plump pout by dabbing PHOTO OP on the top of the cupid’s bow."

Here's what I think. Upon opening the tube, you are greeted by a lip gloss-style paintbrush wand. Use that wand to apply the product to the inner corners of the eye (where your skin curves from your nose to the beginning of the eye) as well as under the eye. Blend in with fingertips. You can also use it as a primer for eyeshadow by applying it to your lids, blending & allowing to dry.
The formula has a pleasant odor and blends in nicely with the skin. It has just a small amount of sheen to make the applied area luminescent. It does not clump or fade.

Now....my free gift. If you remember, I told you on Tuesday's and Thursdays between 9am-2pm PST, you get a full size free gift with purchase. Last Thursday is was the Lip Enhancing Gloss - True Color - in "Couture".

Here's what the website says:

"
Drench your lips in luminous color and shine with LIP ENHANCING GLOSS. Ultra-moisturizing to keep lips soft, smooth, and naturally plumped for hours.
SHEER COLOR - Full of shine polymers with a hint of glistening color for gorgeous reflective shine. Brush wand flawlessly coats lips."

Here's what I think. I really like the color. It's a very sheer pink, almost a light raspberry color, with gold glitter. Sponge applicator. If you're into the "natural-ish" lip look, this one is for you. I prefer to let the eyes do the talking, so the color on my lips is minimal. I don't like too many things going on at once. It's very spring/summer, and perfect for just a little pop of color.
