Happy Earth Day!

My Dear Friends,

Today marks the 40th Anniversary of Earth DaySenator Gaylord Nelson founded Earth Day in 1970 to raise and reflect growing public awareness of environmental issues.  The environment wasn't making big news at the time, but a 1969 New York Times article about Earth Day noted a groundswell of activism. Recent ecological disasters in Ohio and California helped galvanize public response.
The senator modeled Earth Day after a fervent movement on college campuses and chose a young graduate student at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government to organize the first national event. It was originally called something less catchy, but "Earth Day" was the name that stuck. (Info. via Bing)

Many retailers use this opportunity to pass on the savings.  Quite a few companies now a days use better methods to produce their products.  I for one am grateful for that.  Today for my contribution to Earth Day, I will be planting a few new trees.  Every plant adds just a little more clean air to our environment, as well as a substantial amount of beauty.

As far as retailers go, here is a small list of companies that are giving back:

Tarte.  Right now they are offering 30% off the entire site with code "EARTHDAY", Free Shipping on orders over $40, and if you spend $60 you get a free "Be good to your Mother (Earth)" recycled tote. Tarte also carries a Vegan line of cosmetics.  Their line is also all-natural, and you can read more about it here.  One last thing - they offer 15% off your purchase if you send in your old products for recycling!

Forever 21.  The Heritage 21 line has specially designed Earth Day shirts.  If you spend $40 they will give you a reusable, recyclable water bottle for free.

Spring Hill Nursery.  They are currently offering 67% off select plants TODAY ONLY in celebration of Earth Day.
