Endangered Species Chocolate - The Review & Giveaway

My Dear Friends,

Endangered Species Chocolate is a company that believes all life is precious and deserving of our respect, kindness and care. They are 100% Ethically Traded who buys their cacao from small family-owned properties, helping sustain the habitats and communities in which they exist. They only buy cacao grown in the natural shade of rich, diverse forests. Choosing their chocolate is one way you can help support sustainable forest farmland and the species that flourish there. Since it is ethically traded, we ensure farmers humane working conditions and a fair price for their cacao.

Their exquisite chocolate and colorful wrappers serve not only to increase awareness of species currently listed as threatened or endangered on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife’s Endangered Species List, but to inspire proactive conservation for animals confronting universal struggles such as habitat encroachment, poaching, and pollution.  These products aim to honor all flora and fauna that share this planet.  All are invaluable…and sadly, all are vulnerable.

Endangered Species Chocolate was founded in 1993 in effort to spread awareness and to make an impact on the growing number of plant and animal species that are disappearing from Earth. Since then the mission has grown to embrace a new definition of “endangered” - that all species, habitat and humanity are endangered on our planet, not just animals on a list. 10 % of our net profits are donated to help support species, habitat and humanity.

I was sent some of their products to try and comment on.  I was sent two .35 oz. Dark Chocolate with Deep Forest Mint bars , two .35 Extreme Dark Chocolate Bars, one 1.4 oz. Organic Dark Chocolate Bar, one 1.4 oz. Organic Milk Chocolate & Peanut Butter Bar, one 3 oz. All Natural Dark Chocolate with Raspberries Bar, and one All Natural Dark Chocolate with Cranberries & Almonds bar.

Each bar has a high cocoa content, some up to 88%!  The first one I tried was the Dark Chocolate with Deep Forest Mint with 72% cocoa.  Whoa.  That is strong!  (but in a good way) At first taste, you are hit with a deep dark cocoa flavor, which melts into a fresh mint flavor.  Yum!  The Extreme Dark Chocolate was a tad too bitter for me at 88% cocoa, but it was not unpleasant by any means!  It would be great with fresh strawberries, or chopped up into cookies.  The next one was my favorite - the Milk Chocolate & Peanut Butter with 43% cocoa.  More, please!  Smooth creamy peanut butter flavor in creamy milk chocolate!  The Organic Dark Chocolate Bar comes in at 70% cocoa, which is perfect.  Not too strong.  I only mention this one last because there has to be a first and last to everything.  The All Natural Dark Chocolate with Cranberries & Almonds bar with 72% cocoa....I loved how the tart of the cranberries blends with the natural sweetness of the almonds.

I really enjoyed all of the bars and knowing how the chocolate is manufactured and what the company stands for makes it even better.  It is a very noble thing that they are doing, trying to do a little good in the world.
