Royal Wedding Fever!

My Dear Friends,

Okay, I admit it.

I've caught it....Royal Wedding Fever.  I'm just mesmerized by the traditions, the clothes, the location, the sheer majesty of it all.  Kate Middleton, whether you like her or not, is a modern Cinderella tale.  Born a commoner, with no royal ties (other than being Prince William's 15th cousin once removed) and no titles, goes on to be a real life Princess.  Almost every girl at one point or another, has wanted to be a princess.  As we watch vicariously, one of our own actually got to BE one.  In fact, Kate is the first commoner to marry royalty in 350 years!  Congratulations, William & Kate!

Seriously.  Look at that dress!  Kate Middleton is wearing a long-sleeved, ivory lace and satin gown, designed by Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen.

"Miss Middleton wished for her dress to combine tradition and modernity with the artistic vision that characterizes Alexander McQueen’s work," Clarence House officials released in a statement. "Miss Middleton worked closely with Sarah Burton in formulating the design of her dress."

The Design: "Individual flowers have been hand-cut from lace and hand-engineered onto ivory silk tulle to create a unique and organic design, which incorporates the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock."
The bridal train measured 270 cm (110 in), and along with the lace, all other fabrics used in the creation of the dress were sourced from and supplied by British companies. The lace motifs were pinned, "framed up" and applied with stab stitching every 2–3 mm around each one. Workers washed their hands every 30 minutes to keep the lace and threads pristine, and the needles were renewed every three hours, to keep them sharp and clean.
The Fabrics: "French Chantilly lace was combined with English Cluny lace to be hand-worked in the Irish Carrickmacross needlework tradition."

The Veil: "The veil is made of layers of soft, ivory silk tulle with a trim of hand-embroidered flowers... and held in place by a Cartier Scroll "halo" tiara, made in 1936, lent to Miss Middleton by The Queen.  It was purchased by the Queen's father, the Duke of York (subsequently King George VI) for his Duchess (later Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mother) three weeks before succeeding his brother Edward VIII (Duke of Windsor) as King. Princess Elizabeth (now the Queen) received the tiara from her mother on her 18th birthday.

The Jewelry: "[The earrings] are diamond-set stylized oak leaves with a pear shaped diamond set drop and a pavĂ© set diamond acorn suspended in the centre.  Inspiration for the design comes from the Middleton family's new coat of arms, which includes acorns and oak leaves."

The Ring: "Since 1923, it has been a tradition in the royal family to use Welsh gold for the wedding ring of the bride. This ring was made from a small amount of gold that has been kept in the royal vaults since it was presented to Queen Elizabeth II."

The Shoes: "The wedding shoes have made hand-made by the team at Alexander McQueen and are made of ivory duchesse satin with lace hand-embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework."

The Bouquet: "The bouquet is a shield-shaped wired bouquet of myrtle, lily-of-the-valley, sweet William and hyacinth. The bouquet was designed by Shane Connolly and draws on the traditions of flowers of significance for the Royal Family, the Middleton family and on the Language of Flowers."

The Hair: The royal bride opted for a natural "demi-chignon," styled by James Pryce from Kate's favorite salon, Richard Ward of Chelsea, London.

Something old: The bridal gown, from Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, featured “traditional Carrickmacross craftsmanship,” a lace technique that dates back to the 1800s.

Something new: Her parents gifted their daughter with custom-made diamond oak-leaf earrings with a diamond-encrusted acorn set in the middle, a nod to their new family crest.

Something borrowed: Kate’s tiara, on loan from the queen herself, per royal wedding tradition, is a 1936 Cartier “halo.”

Something blue: We can't see it, but a blue ribbon is sewn into the interior of her dress.

Different Views Of The Dress

"The Queen has today been pleased to confer a Dukedom on Prince William of Wales. His titles will be Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus.
Prince William thus becomes His Royal Highness The Duke of  Cambridge and Miss Catherine Middleton on marriage will become Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge."
Upon her marriage, Middleton therefore became Her Royal Highness Princess William Arthur Philip Louis, Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn, Baroness Carrickfergus, but is not styled as 'Princess Catherine'.

A Night Of Destruction.

My Dear Friends,

I apologize for the absence of a post yesterday but the weather kept me from being on the computer.  You see, I'm from Arkansas and our state got hit with terrible, devastating storms during the day as well as last night.  I'm sure you've seen it on your news; we had tornadoes, lightening, thunder, mass amounts of rain - destruction rampant throughout the state.  Please keep us in your thoughts, as a lot of people lost homes, schools, jobs, and lives last night.  We are due for another round of storms this evening.  I can only hope it will not be as terrible as last night.

Thank you for understanding.

Hard Candy Review #3

My Dear Friends,

When I was younger, I was obsessed with Hard Candy cosmetics. I wanted their products so badly, and was envious of those who were lucky enough to have some. It was more expensive than the makeup you bought in the drugstore, so in teenage-girl logic, it was cooler and better. I used to save all the money I could just to buy an eyeshadow here or a blush there - I treasured that makeup so much!

They had wild colors and edgy names like "Hypnotic", "Rumor Mill", "Dimple", "Fringe", "Old Skool" and "Envy". They were trendy & showed how you knew your stuff when it came to what was cool. I had this bright blue nail polish, I can't remember the name, but I cannot tell you how awesome I felt when I wore it. I cherished that bottle. I just knew that people wanted my nail color. They also had amazing eye shadows and blush kits, as well as lip items & foundations. They were in all the fun magazines (Teen, CosmoGirl, etc.)

Not one to sit on their laurels, Hard Candy re-launched their brand last year!  It is filled with a new line of cosmetics & they are STELLAR!

Today I am reviewing Hard Candy Just Nails Nail Color in "Mushroom" & Hard Candy Eye Def Glitter Eyeshadow in "Robot".

Hard Candy Just Nails
Nail Color in "Mushroom"

When I received the bottle, I have to admit I was a little skeptical.  I thought...BROWN.  Interesting color choice.  Then I put it on.  It's an incredible, creamy looking chocolate brown.  It's the exact color of hot chocolate!

This could be a great color for spring nails if you're not into the pastel trend.  Pair it with a glossy top coat for glamour or use the Hard Candy "Matte-ly In Love" for a more earthy, subdued look.  Hard Candy polishes are long lasting & highly pigmented.

Hard Candy Eye Def in "Robot"

This product excites the make-up lover in me.  The bottle is test tube shaped, so I was curious as to what it could be.  Flipped over the tube and there it was --- Glitter Eye Shadow! *squeal*  The Eye Def shadows are creme based so they glide on easily.  The glitter is extremely fine & very sparkly.

The formula of these applies wet and then dries down after a minute or two. These come in a tube with a slanted doe foot applicator for easy application.  The shadow transplants a fair amount of glitter on your eyelid, giving your eyes a rich jewel-like tone. These would be perfect to use as a liner as well.

You can see the full line of Hard Candy products online at HardCandy.Com or buy them at your local Wal-Mart or online at WalMart.Com!

My Dear Friends,

Sorry I dropped off the map for a few days - I had pharyngitis.  Not fun.  I'm feeling about 90% today, so at least I've got that going for me.  If I can shake this cough, I'd be all better.  So...hopefully soon that will happen.

I just want to let you all know that the giveaways are still open for Glee Gum & snackTAXI so be sure to enter to win!
