If You Care - Environmentally Friendly Products

My Dear Friends,

In this day and age, we all try to reduce our trash output and be more environmentally friendly.  It's not always easy.  It's sometimes hard to find high quality recycled materials, unbleached paper or wood products that have come from sustainably managed forests.

If You Care has a full product line.  You can buy items like aluminum foil, parchment paper, parchment sheets, baking cups, coffee filters (cone & basket), wax paper, cheesecloth, twine, gloves, firelighters, snack bags, sandwich bags, sponge cloths & trash bags.

All paper products by If You Care are 100% unbleached and chlorine-free.  All waxed items are made with  soybean wax, which is a 100% natural, renewable resource.

If You Care replaces petroleum based ingredients with natural and renewable resources. They use paper from pulp and paper mills practicing the highest levels of clean water management. Every care is taken to ensure that each step – from factory to store shelf – conforms to strict standards for the conservation and protection of our greatest asset – the environment.

If You Care was conceived of as a brand of environmentally friendly kitchen and household products.  The first products were unbleached coffee filters, which were launched in 1990 & had the distinction of being the first unbleached coffee filters in the U.S.

Parchment Baking Paper and Baking Cups soon followed. All of the paper products were unbleached and totally chlorine-free.  In 2004, the very first Aluminum Foil made from 100% recycled aluminum was launched. This product featured a 95% energy savings compared to conventional aluminum foil. Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil for grilling and barbecuing, also from 100% recycled aluminum, was introduced in 2007.

That same year, waxed paper, from unbleached paper coated with soybean wax was launched. In 2009, two new products were launched in the fourth quarter – 100% carbon neutral fire starters, made from FSC certified wood and vegetable oil, and sandwich and snack bags made from unbleached grease-proof paper. Many new products in a wide variety of categories are being planned and developed in the coming years.
It takes only 5% energy to produce recycled aluminum foil compared with regular aluminum foil. The energy equivalent of 1 gallon of fuel produces 2.78 lbs. virgin aluminum, while only 0.05 gallons is required to produce 2.78 lbs recycled aluminum. Expressed in terms of rolls of aluminum foil, 1.39 cups of fuel produces one roll of traditional foil, while only 0.07 cups is used for each If You Care roll.

These energy savings don’t even take into account the financial and environmental benefits of lower transportation weights and fuel costs. The primary component of aluminum is bauxite, typically mined in tropical and sub-tropical regions. Which means in addition to the tremendous energy expenditures and environmental costs in the mining of the mineral, there are very significant added transportation and fuel costs in moving it around the globe.  Most of these energy costs are saved in the recycling process, so If You Care Recycled Aluminum foil uses even less than 5% that of regular aluminum foil.
